Labour calls for equal opportunities for women

The Labor andIndustrial Relations has urged all companies and organizations to provide equal employment opportunities totheir female employees.

This will provide womenthe opportunity to reachtheir full potential intheir endeavors and to end violence against women.

Secretary of Labor andIndustrial Relations George Vaso made this remark when addressing his female staff onInternational Womenrsquo;s Daylast Friday.

Female employees ofthe Labor andIndustrial Relations Department were pampered bytheir male colleagues to a luncheon to marktheInternational Womenrsquo;s Dayin Port Moresby.

Head ofthe Department George Vaso andthe Minister for Labor andIndustrial Relations Mark Maipakai gracedthe occasion withtheir presence.

The department is settingthe bench mark to address equal employment opportunity, employing more women than men.

Secretary George Vaso challenged his female staff to rise aboverthe cultural hindrances to contribute tothe development ofthe nation.

He says women have come of age to breakthe male dominated syndrome inthe society and should be allowed to take more prominent roles.

Onlythen violence and discrimination against women can be stopped.

The Minister Mark Maipakai touched onthe importance of Education to endthe cycle of abuse against women. He cautioned women to respectthemselves and to strive for the best intheir careers.
