Morobe Province: 250 People Contract HIV per Week

According tothe Morobe Provincial Aids Council, 250 people contract HIV per week.

 

Bet those statistics are based on people that go through voluntary testing.

Residents in Lae City’say more has to be done for awareness.

 

Lae city has seen a spike inthe number of people being contracted by HIV;the city hasthe highest in Morobe because ofthe Economic boom and cash flow.

 

The National Aid Council says most people infected are people betweenthe ages of 15 and 25 years old.

 

“Statistics show that betweenthe age group of 14 and 25 havethe highest numbers,” said  National Aids Council Deputy Director,Philip Tapo.
 

The Council saysthey have identiflied high-risk segments that includes sex workers andthe under privilege population of Papua New Guineawho lack services to get awareness tothem.
