PNG Hockey Federation gearing up for upcoming Oceania Pacific Cup

The PNG Hockey Federation is gearing up for its major international and local events coming up with the Oceania Pacific Cup in Fiji as priority.

With the task of improving Hockey in the country President of the PNG Hockey Federation Kaluwin Potuan says Fiji will be their number one rivals.

With a training squad of 30 men and 30 women training has already begun and the selection of the final 18 players for the two teams will be completed by the end of August.

President of the PNG Hockey Federation Kaluwin Potuan says he is confident that they will select a strong team to improve PNG’s standing in this year’s tournament.

One hindering factor for elite players is the K 3000 levy fee imposed on each travelling players…and sponsorship is at this stage slow coming by.

PNG Hockey Federation executive Thomas Kahai also added that talent development for the sport of Hockey is currently underway…and they aim for sporting excellence in participation, coaching, officiating and administration as well.

Meantime the PNG Hockey Federation is looking at securing a major sponsor and will be planning for fundraising activated and ask support from corporate houses and sporting bodies in their efforts.
