Potape Says Government Must Deploy Relief Without Delaying

Former Hela Governor Francis Potape says the government must deploy relief without delay.

He says people have suffered for a week now and supplies have not reached the affected communities in Hela.

Potape urged Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to stop all bureaucratic meetings and address humanitarian assistance.

“All these meetings need to be stopped, the Government must move in with all the necessary help to those affected by the earthquake”, said Potape.

The former Governor says Hela people have suffered enough and the Government must not waste time. He says the Oil and Gas developers must also show their community obligations and help assist the people.

Potape also urged the Government to hire earthquake experts to assess the cause of the earthquake. He says rumors of man-made activities causing the earthquake must be challenged so people know the truth why the earthquake happened.

Potape also urged all levels of Government to work together and address the situation so people see services and lives restored.
