Public Curator Office Lacks Funds

By Staycey Yalo – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The Public Curator & Official Trustee of Papua New Guinea needs funding to run its operations throughout the country.

Public Curator, Jacob Popuna said for years the office has been underfunded and has been surviving mostly, on administrative fees.

Public curator and the official trustee is the office that is in charge of wills. For years, it has been facing financial challenges to carry out its responsibilities.

The office’s operational budget is K600,000 but this year, it was only given K400, 000 despite a budget submission of K3Million.

The regional offices in Lae, Mt Hagen and Kokopo also face the same issues- funding shortages and logistics challenges.

Mr Popuna said, despite all these, the office has adapted to a strategy of surviving within their means with the little they earn from administrative fees.
