State Alleges Businessman Misused K600,000 in State Funds

A businessman in Port Moresby appeared today at the Waigani National Court to testify over the alleged misuse of K600,000 from the state.

Mose Kopioko was alleged to have misused this money under the Public Investment Program from the Department of National Planning and Monitoring in 2015.

Kopioko appeared before Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika at the Waigani Supreme Court this morning to clear allegations over the misuse of the money.

The court heard in 2015 three co-accused who also appeared from custody today had conned the defendant, who then paid part of the K600,000 to them.

Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika who is the presiding judge told the defendant that he was paying the money to fraudsters. And he had fallen into their trap.

The defendant told the court that he reported the matter to police and Simon Nokue, a co-accused in the proceeding was arrested and charged.

The matter will continue in court.
