By Neville Choi – EM TV, Port Moresby

PNG Electoral Commissioner, Andrew Trawen, today announced the approved dates for the Pomio electorate by-election.

The by-election will see the issuing of writs on March 12th, and nominations closing on the 18th. Polling will run from May 9th to the 22nd; with the return of writs on or before Friday, June 11th.

Mr Trawen said the budget allocation for hosting of the by-election for Pomio is K3.6 million.

The returning officer for the by-election is Theresa Sam, who is also the assistant election manager for East New Britain. Sam will be assisted by six assistant returning officers for the six LLGs in the district.

Mr Trawen also said that a by-election for the Goilala Open will also be conducted, but he would first need to have a copy of the official death certificate of the Late MP, Daniel Mona, and no planning will go ahead, until after the mourning period of the late member.
